Explored notions of play and partnership through video, performance, and formal studies.
Collaborators: Ana Arenas, Emma Jurczynski
Role: Contributed to design, material studies, and performance choreography with special attention to film editing and narrative construction.
Timeline: 4 weeks
Approach: We began by exploring our intuition about play and the framework it requires, comprised primarily by reciprocity, imagination, and boundaries. Through internal collaboration as well as collaboration with our professors, we designed narratives that showcased elements we found integral to play: trust/support, camp, and individuality. In the final performance, we showcased the artifact we designed, a crescent shaped swing clad in fur, tassel, and felt, which we lovingly call 'Bridget.' Through our performance, we explore Bridget's range of movements and three unique approaches to play: exploratory, rambunctious, and collaborative.
Conclusion: In addition to exploring and studying play through physical means, Bridget was also a way to bring together a community. We were able to design a form that invited interaction and stretched the imagination, welcoming a range of behaviors.
